The basics: building words

GAME ✓ +40

Tap and drag to connect neighboring letters in any direction. When you release a valid word, it scores and the letters pop off the board — new letters fall into place.

  1. Connect neighboring letters. Tap a letter and drag your finger (or the mouse) to the next one. Any direction counts: horizontal, vertical and diagonal.
  2. Let go to submit. When the sequence spells a valid word, it is accepted and the points go to your score.
  3. Used letters disappear. The letters of the word leave the board and new letters fall into place, opening up new combinations. (Clean Sweep mode is different: the board does not refill.)

Each word only counts once per game. The history below the board shows everything you have found, and the meaning of each word appears when it is accepted.

The game is played in English or Portuguese: the language you choose also sets the dictionary, so in English mode only English words count.

Scoring

  • Longer words are worth more. A 6- or 7-letter word scores far more than several short words.
  • The target word is worth 5×. A word appears at the top of the board. Build exactly that word to multiply its points by five.
  • Special tiles double points, add extra time or clear parts of the board (see below).

Hint and shuffle

Stuck? The Hint button (which uses a little energy) shows a possible word on the current board, and the Shuffle button deals a new board (the first shuffle of each game is free).

Special tiles

Some letters come marked with an icon. Use them in a word to trigger the effect:

Bonus ×2Doubles the word's points.
Extra timeAdds 10 seconds to the clock.
BombBlows up the neighboring letters and makes room.
MissileClears a whole row or column.
Special bombClears about 45% of the board at once.
IceA frozen tile has to be used twice.

Before each game you can set up a combo of special tiles to start with an edge.

Game modes

Six ways to play, each with its own icon on the game's home screen:

90 seconds

Arcade

The classic mode. You have 90 seconds to score as many points as you can. Long words and extra-time tiles make all the difference. Your result goes to the global ranking.

No timer

Zen

No clock and no rush. The game only ends when you decide to leave. Great for training your eye and finding new words calmly.

By theme

Themed

Each theme (travel, food, fruits and more) hides a list of words. The counter at the top shows how many you have found. Ideal for building vocabulary.

Campaign

Zen Ladder

A 5-stage campaign. In stage 1 only 3-letter words count; each stage the length grows, up to 7-letter words. Find 10 words of the required length to move on.

Daily challenge

Clean Sweep

One board per day, the same for every player. Here letters are not refilled: each word removes its blocks for good. The goal is to leave as few blocks as possible on the board. Think before spending a letter.

1 on 1

Duels

Challenge a friend to play exactly the same board. Whoever scores more wins the duel. Just share the challenge link.

26 themes to play

In Themed mode each board hides the words of one topic. Some of the themes:

Animals word search Fruits word search Sports word search Sea animals word search Music word search Places word search Colors word search Technology word search Travel word search

Energy, missions and progress

Each game uses energy. Energy refills over time and can also be earned by completing missions, playing the daily games and sharing results. When you sign in with your Google account or email, your progress, level, XP and records are saved in the cloud and you appear on the global ranking.

Tips to score more

  • Look for common English prefixes and suffixes, such as -ing, -ed, -er and re-.
  • Plurals and verb forms count: after finding GAME, check for an S nearby to make GAMES.
  • Save the bonus tiles for long words.
  • In Arcade, don't freeze looking for the perfect word: medium words in a row add up fast.
  • In Clean Sweep, start with the hard letters (like J, Q, X and Z) so you are not stuck with them at the end.
